Let me tell you, if running a business has taught me anything, it’s that business negotiations have nothing on bedtime negotiations.
You think closing a big deal is tough? Try getting a five-year-old to put on shoes when he’s decided today is a barefoot-only adventure.
Motherhood and business are two worlds that seem completely different, yet somehow, they blend into a chaotic, beautiful, and often hilarious reality.
One moment, I’m coaching a client on strategic growth; the next, I’m explaining why glitter glue is not an acceptable substitute for actual glue (Amore, my budding artist, disagrees).
The Fine Art of Multitasking
Motherhood trains you in business essentials without you even realizing it.
- Conflict resolution?
I do that daily when Aldo and Amore both want the last Happy Hippo chocolate.
- Crisis management?
That’s me when someone’s school project is due tomorrow morning and I’m out of printer ink.
- Time management?
I’ve mastered scheduling meetings between school pickups, aerial silks & drama lessons, and those very important “Mum, watch this!” moments.
But what I love most is how my two worlds feed into each other.
My kids remind me daily why I push forward in business. They teach me creativity, resilience, and the power of sheer determination (usually when negotiating extra screen time).
At the same time, my business gives me the flexibility to be present for them, to celebrate their wins, wipe their tears, and cheer them on as they grow into their own unique, incredible selves.
Embracing the Chaos
Is it always easy? Absolutely not. Some days, I feel like I’m running a Fortune 500 company and a circus.
But would I trade it for anything? Not a chance. Because at the end of the day, whether I’m closing deals or closing storybooks at bedtime, I know I’m building something meaningful for myself, for my children, and for the future we’re creating together.
So, to all the fellow business mums out there: you’re doing an amazing job.
